For this module's project assignment on ABC Company, consider the following as it relates to employee performance management:

  • Determine how to analyze employee performance.
  • Research various means of coaching and performance management.

At ABC Company, there is a manufacturing production operator that co-workers are complaining about “not pulling their weight” on the job. Complaints include the production operator arriving late for work, taking longer breaks, not helping their co-workers, being lazy on the job. The supervisor has decided to investigate the complaints and have coaching and performance discussions with the employee.
Write a minimum 4-page paper discussing actions the supervisor can and should take in this situation. Please discuss the following:

  1. What is the difference between coaching and performance management? How should the supervisor consider approaching this situation?
  2. How should the supervisor define and respond to the poor performance? What theories can the supervisor apply to correct the poor job performance?
  3. Consider the Kinlaw Process, Fournies Process or other coaching processes. Which coaching process should the supervisor use? How should the supervisor plan and execute the performance discussion with this employee? What could happen if the supervisor cannot get mutual agreement to improving performance?

Analyzing employee performance is vital for every organization. At ABC Company,
performance for all is a key driver in its success and this is enhanced through; setting goals,
there are managers who set clear goals for their employees while others allow them to set for
themselves. Either way, it makes employees aware of what is expected of them and takes
responsibility for their work. This method increases motivation. Another method is
evaluating employee objectives where managers base this on the performance thus helping in
answering questions like “Did the employee meet the targeted goals? “ This allows managers
to know the employee commitment and motivation to their work. Quality of employee work
is a method that helps in determining if the work was timely and consistent based on quality
levels. Communication in ABC Company is a large asset, having employees with great
communication skills enables the company to have strong relationships and increased
marketing. If employees are poor in this skill, the company will have low productivity and
thus this is very important for the evaluation of employees.
In enhancing organization and individual performance, coaching is a preferred
method as it increases everyone’s understanding. It generally involves training, which can be
broken down into various aspects. In coaching, short and precise demonstrations are used to
capture specific details, issues, and topics which helps an individual have basic knowledge of
what is needed and practically gains confidence. Coaches come up with a checklist of items
that need addressing depending on various findings either from employees, managers and the
organization as a whole. The checklist takes specific issues which coaches use to guide
individuals on how to improve depending on what is listed. This helps organizations gain in
