1 Do you feel 18 years old is the appropriate age to be considered an adult? How about 21 to be able to drink legally? What other age restraints are there and do you think they are appropriate. 1) 18 years is like a transition point across almost all countries. At 18 years children are made to believe that they are already adults and that they are responsible for their own actions. This makes me believe that it is the right age to be considered as an adult. The trick however is, why are we then denied some freedom if they already consider you as an adult? At this age most of the teenagers are excited already and are out trying everything that the other adults do including drinking. I then do not find it necessary to make 21 the legal drinking age because most of the 18 year olds do drink and are driving. A good number of them are even responsible and thus I think it is best if it is legalized at 18 years. It is necessary to accept that they are grownups already and let them carry out the activities that an adult can do. If it is not applicable, I feel it is best to then to push the adult age mark to 21 so that then they consider drinking and driving and other activities at 18 illegal now that you are not an adult. It is very contradicting to give a person the responsibilities of a grownup and then deny them the rights of an adult. Something else is that we do not mature at the same rate. Some 18 year olds are more mature that some 25 year olds. Sometimes this makes me think that age should not be a measure of maturity and the right to adulthood responsibilities. I think a better way that focus on ones actions should be in place to solve this issue of age now that is a problem in almost all the countries worldwide. 2) I do not feel 18 year's old is the appropriate age tobe cosidered an adult. This is because at the stage many teenager's have not developed the cognitive thinking (effective decision making skills) some a the age are able to, but the majoity rules-- which is where most 18 years old pupils fall. Although in Jamaica the legal age to drink responsibly is 18 and a lot of of these pupil are on their own, goig to work and fending for tthemselves even if they have a family that is abe to ake care of them. At the age of 18 I believe that if one is sexually active they shoud have the decision whether they want to have a baby or abort. I would absolutely go more with age 21 because at this stage they are able to make decisions that they will understand the effects of especially at this stage for many lawful processes where a parent or gaurdian is no longer needed to give consent. Drinking on 2 their own responsibly in most states. One should not need a parent at this age to engage in lottery where gambling is concerned once they have their identification card. I do not agree with age 18 as the legal age to purchase tobacco in as this does a lot of harm and has a major influence on gang violence and gun drug trade. In Egypt 21 and older is the legal age for tobacco selling, that I agree with.
