Description

  1. In “Eveline” did you agree or disagree with her decision at the end? Did she even make a decision? Explain your thoughts. This should NOT just be a summary of the story.
  1. Did the mother in “The Rocking-horse Winner” really not love her son? Use evidence from the text (hint hint a quote would do nicely) to support your response.
  1. In “The Train from Rhodesia” what do you think inspired the woman’s response at the end of the story? Why do you think that? Use evidence from the text (again, hint hint, a quote would do nicely here) to support your response.

5.09 Mid-unit Test Part 2
Remember! Anything with a 90% similarity rating or above will not be read, will be
given a zero and you will need to resubmit. Each question is worth 10 points.
1. In “Eveline” did you agree or disagree with her decision at the end? Did she even make a
decision? Explain your thoughts. This should NOT just be a summary of the story.
I won’t agree of Eveline’s decision because for me it is not fair to stay in a family where
your efforts of providing a good living is not much appreciated and well valued. Eveline
made a selfless decision where he thought more of her father’s welfare than of her own
happiness and a chance of having a good life with the man she love. She realized that his
father is getting older and she thought that the more that her father will need and miss
her in some way. She thought of the happy moments that she shared with her father and
with the rest of the siblings and she was really caught up with the past and became
unwilling to push through her plans with Frank. Her concern for her family weighed more
than of her own happiness.

2. Did the mother in “The Rocking-horse Winner” really not love her son? Use evidence
from the text (hint hint a quote would do nicely) to support your response...
