Chronic Disease Research – Ischemic Stroke
A Description of Ischemic Stroke
Ischemic stroke tends to arise from a decline in the blood flow that moves to the brain
system (Walter, 2022). This decline might contribute to significant damage to brain cells, thereby
triggering ischemic stroke (Walter, 2022). In most instances, the disruption in the blood flow
might occur due to blood clots (Walter, 2022). An in-depth understanding of the disease is
necessary for initiating appropriate preventive measures, which can reduce adverse health
implications.
The Signs and Symptoms of Ischemic Stroke
People with ischemic stroke are more likely to experience a sense of numbness in the leg
or arm (Walter, 2022). Besides, they might depict a droopy face, confusion, and poor
coordination (Walter, 2022). In addition, they might have a hard time speaking, lose their vision,
and struggle to maintain balance (Walter, 2022). These signs and symptoms align with the
challenges that patients with ischemic stroke might have.
The Risk Factors for Ischemic Stroke
In most instances, acute ischemic stroke usually arises from the presence of high blood
pressure (Walter, 2022). Apart from that, people who are susceptible to ischemic stroke tend to
have diabetes, obesity, and high cholesterol (Walter, 2022). Others might be cigarette smokers or
even have atrial fibrillation and end-stage kidney disease (Walter, 2022). It is essential to reduce
the severity of these risk factors in order to lower the likelihood of getting an ischemic stroke.
Steps to Prevent Ischemic Stroke
In this case, the at-risk group might benefit from the extensive management of vascular
risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, and smoking (Kleindorfer et al., 2021). Besides, at-
