This week, you are researching various elements that will go into your final case study as part of your final Community Action Plan. Review the Portfolio Project description and grading rubric in the Module 8 folder.

This week, conduct research on the following:

  • What might be some of the expenses associated with solving the public health issue you have identified? Think about labor, infrastructure, advertising, transportation, and building materials, for example.
  • What could be some possible economic ramifications if a solution is not found to the public health issue?
  • What are the economic benefits, and to whom, of finding solutions to the public health issue you have identified?

Instructions:

  • Write a well-organized list that is a 2- to 3-page paper, not including the title and reference pages, which are required.
  • The paper must be formatted correctly using APA style. Remember, all research material used in your paper must be paraphrased and include an in-text citation.
  • Your paper must be properly cited and formatted according to the CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements.
  • This is an individual paper; however, you should reflect on our Discussion Forums and incorporate ideas from there, as appropriate.
  • Be sure you utilize your text appropriately as a reference and cite at least one other credible external reference such as a website or journal article to support your proposed resolution of the case.
  • Your external sources can be trade publications, government information, newspaper articles, or scholarly or peer-reviewed journal articles. The CSU-Global Library is a good place to find these sources.

Public Health Issues: Motor Vehicle Injury
Issue Identification
Motor vehicle injury is a serious public health issue since motor vehicle crashes rank first
among the leading causes of death in America over the last two decades. Although the rate of
motor vehicle injuries has been on the decline, the country lost 35,000 people to road accidents
in 2015. Statistics show motor vehicle-associated injuries send an average of 2.3 million persons
to the hospital each year (Craig et al., 2016).
Associated expenses of solving motor vehicle injury public health issue
Solving the issue of motor vehicle injury in America comes with costs; however, it is a
worthy course. Every possible resolution or policy has its associated expenses as follows:
✓ The government should educate the public on how to stay safe while on the road e.g.,
through Ticket or Click It campaign; the state will have to spend on the promotion
campaigns
✓ Stricter restraint laws need to be enacted to reinforce booster seat use for children of less
than 9 years of age or under height of 57 inches (which is the recommended height for a
safety belt) (Kearns & Brotherton-Bunch, 2014): Manufacturers will bear the cost of
design the booster seats while car owners will incur additional expenses of complying
with the requirements
✓ Improving driver safety for new drivers and teens through strict comprehensive GDL
system (White, Stallones & Last, 2013): The new drivers will have to drive within the
regulations, which means the solution may attract extra expenses of engaging a personal
driver until one meets the standards
