For this week's discussion, simply find a passage in Goldrick-Rab's essay that caught your attention and provoked a reaction. Quote the passage and share with the class your reaction.
Protocol for Discussion Post: 400 Words-- Minimum
- In your first sentence, offer the author's full name and the title of the essay
- In one sentence, offer a summary or overview--what is this essay about
- Tell the class you found one passage that caught your attention

Can You Show Me How to Use a Direct Quotation?

To avoid loss of points---use the direct quotation method and cite the location correctly.
Sample citation method for an actual physical book--use a signal phrase with a comma (Goldrick-Rab writes, ) cite the page number and place the period correctly.

In her essay, City Of Broken Dreams, Sara Goldrick-Rab investigates how low-income
college students are succeeding at obtaining a degree despite financial troubles. But more
importantly, she notes that the promise of higher education as the gateway to economic
mobility is flawed by a host of other systemic barriers, including weak financial aid, high living
