Assignment 3 - Leadership and Teamwork-strengths Engaged
Leadership and Teamwork-strengths Engaged
Leadership is one of the most important competencies pertinent to personal and professional development.
Most people have strengths which are often poorly deployed or not developed at all. The process of
becoming a successful leader starts with identifying and understanding such abilities. Strength-based
leadership is a new approach that focuses on the identification and exploitation of the strengths of
individuals and teams to enhance both performance and satisfaction for organizations.
Strength can be defined as an attribute or quality that empowers an individual's accomplishment and
efficiency. It is a quality or set of qualities that we exhibit when we are doing our best. Each of us has
certain strengths that we excel at or thrive in. However, these capacities are often underestimated, hence
our failure to apply them.
This is a growing area of research that highlights the importance of the enhancement of leadership
effectiveness. One challenge that leaders face is to recognize their strengths and those of others. It is hard
for some modest individuals who would not like to be seen as proud or selfish to identify their good
qualities. It is, however essential to understand and capitalize on these strengths to develop better,
cohesive teams. Positive psychology has a vital role in understanding strengths. The focus here is on
linking those factors that enable the individualities to achieve success and emphasizing the importance of
structure on strengths instead of focusing on sins. This system has the potential to impact in greater
individual fulfillment and higher productivity.
Abilities are related to talents of individuals that can be boosted with more knowledge, new skills, and
practice on a continuous basis. Talents form the foundation of strengths, but they themselves do not
constitute the strengths. These skills, with practice and learning, can evolve into strengths and enhance
personal success and organizational effectiveness.
In other words, the winning formula of leadership consists in identifying and developing strengths both
at the individual and group levels. Strengths-based leadership focuses on finding talents where people are
naturally successful and developing them further to increase performance and work satisfaction within an
organization. By noticing and making use of these strengths, leaders will be able to establish a more
effective, engaged, and positive environment for their teams, which in turn delivers better outcomes both
for individuals and organizations alike.

Assignment 5 - The Importance of Environmental Sustainability and Leadership in the
Community
The Importance of Environmental Sustainability and Leadership in the Community
With the globe facing pollution and climate change, among other issues, environmental sustainability is
an important concern that needs to be changed in our communities. The wise use of resources is vital in
ensuring that the earth is left for future generations. I will be discussing in this report the importance of
environmental sustainability and the key role leadership plays in bringing about positive community
change.
Environmental sustainability involves the usage of materials, energy, and water without harming the
environment or exhausting the resources available for other uses. According to the United Nations (2015),
sustainability means striking a balance among three important components of the ecosystem: social
justice, environmental preservation, and economic prosperity. Unfortunately, pollution, deforestation, and
high resource utilization are still considerable environmental issues today. That would mean our actions
toward managing and utilizing resources should change accordingly.
Leadership is crucial in bringing about environmental sustainability. Leaders at the community level-that
is, local government officials, business leaders, and activists-can influence others and themselves to adapt
sustainable practices. For example, local leaders may impose policies that would increase recycling,
reduce waste, and use renewable energy. Business leaders can work to reduce pollution and conserve
water and ensure that their companies procure materials in a sustainable fashion.
One very strong example of leadership in sustainability involves the adoption of renewable energy. In
various cities, leaders are pushing for the need to adopt solar and wind energy rather than fossil fuel. This
reduces negative impacts on the environment and helps in job creation within the renewable energy sector.
The leaders can also collaborate with several groups, including environmental groups and the community,
to work on the initiatives of sustainability. In building these relationships, leaders are able to achieve
much more long-lasting change within their communities.
Leadership in sustainability encompasses decision-making and a focus on the future. Leaders who possess
a future-oriented mindset appreciate that taking care of the environment improves the health and
wellbeing of the community. It is documented that communities led by leaders who focus on sustainability
are better equipped to deal with environmental disasters compared to other communities (Senge, 2016).
They make informed decisions that ensure the protection of the environment and the community.
In short, environmental sustainability is an important issue that needs to be addressed in our communities.
It largely requires leadership because leaders have the potential to influence others and bring change.
Leaders can help protect the Earth and improve life for everyone by promoting sustainable practices and
working together.
