- Make a contextual connection and contemporary connection ➞➞➞to your image from this unit's module. Basically, tell us why the image you chose relates to "today's" world. Remember, this can be related to anywhere in the contemporary world of 2025.

Discussion #4: Group Discussion: Power and Politics in Art History
The Napoleon on his Imperial Throne has always stood out as an influential oil painting
that Jean-Auguste Dominique Ingres created to symbolize Napoleon’s leadership approach
(Napoleon.org). Besides, Ingres also created the painting, which is an oil on canvas in 1806, and
it even has the dimensions of 260 cm x 163 cm (Napoleon.org). In this painting, Ingres even
includes Neoclassical components like detail, symmetry, and idealized realism into the visual
illustration (Napoleon.org). Besides, Napoleon Bonaparte is wearing a colorful regalia, which
aligns with his monarchy status and also depicts a sense of divinity and authority (Napoleon.org).
This painting captures insights from other figurative illustrations of monarchs in order to
strengthen a sense of divinity in Napoleon’s reign.
After the French Revolution, Napoleon decided to consolidate power fear, and
manipulation to intimidate his enemies (Asadova 28). This ideology was in contrast to the
principles of equality and liberty, which were an integral part of the French Revolution (Asadova
28). In the process of gaining dictatorial power, he combined aspects of the monarchy system
and bureaucracy, which was prominent in the French Revolution. Based on these ideologies,
Ingres wanted to utilize the images of Roman emperors together with medieval kinds to depict
