Written Assignments and the APA Format:
APA has been adopted by the Department as its writing standard for all academic written
assignments. No other writing style is acceptable. APA is the American Psychological
Association, and the style is one of many in the academic world used to regulate the language,
citations, procedure, and formatting of manuscripts and other examples of writing in the social
sciences. Refer to the APA Guide under Resources on the Course Menu for APA specifics.
All projects, assignments, or papers submitted for grading will be required to include an abstract
and reference page. All references are to be cited using the American Psychology Association
(APA) format (6th edition). Your work will be assessed using an individual grading rubric for each
assignment. This tool and process helps the professor measure the key points necessary to
successfully complete written or group assignments. Wikipedia is not an appropriate source for
any scholarly writing and is not permitted for any assignment in this program.
Participation/Discussion Question Postings and Responses.
You are expected to attend and participate in each class discussion. A portion of your grade is
dependent upon informed and active participation in these discussions. You are expected to log
into class a minimum of twice a week to post discussions to TWO other classmates.
Please note: Your post is due by 11:59 on Thursday of each week. Once this is complete, post
your TWO replies by 11:59 PM EST/EDT on Sunday, the due date of this week’s assignment.
Length: Content post is 150-200 words; Response post is 75-100 words.
Both your content post and your response post should reflect a collegial attitude and be free of
grammatical and spelling errors.
Textbook Reviews
You are expected to complete a review guide from the assigned weekly readings. The textbook
reviews will be used as study guides for your Midterm and Final Exams. They are to be
completed and turned in each week for a grade. You may submit your Textbook Reviews prior
to the due date. If any review guides are submitted after the due date, there are no guarantees
that they can be graded and returned to you by the exam dates. All assignments submitted late
are subject to a grade reduction or sanction as determined by the instructor. Prior permission of
the professor/instructor must be received if coursework is to be submitted late.

the subject of juvenile justice will be provided in Module 2. You may choose one of the suggested
topics, or, if you would prefer to use an alternate topic, you will need to obtain approval from your
professor. The “Research Paper” must be at least 5 pages (not including title and reference

three sentences about how the factors leading to juvenile delinquency have affected your own
personal views.
Your paper must include the concepts of juvenile delinquency and must demonstrate an
understanding of the content and internal logic of the theories and premises applied to Juvenile
Delinquency. Support your paper with at least five scholarly resources; however, no more than
20% of your paper should be attributed to referenced sources. In addition to these specified
resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be referenced.
Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are
presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your
response should also reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards and be presented in a
typed, college-level double-spaced format, including proper title headings, sub-topics, citations,
and a reference page. See the rubric below for detailed grading information.
Be sure to adhere to Saint Leo University’s Academic Integrity Policy. Submit your paper as an
MS Word file via the course Dropbox no later than Sunday 11:59 PM EST/EDT of Module
