Question one.

A. Here we sketch the boxplots using the five number summaries. The five number

summaries include the minimum value, the first quartile, the median, the third quartile

and the maximum value.

The minimum value, first quartile (Q1), median (Q2), third quartile (Q3) and the maximum value

from the first class are; 40, 76, 86, 94 and 98 respectively.

The interquartile range (IQR) is given by Q3-Q1= 94-76=18

The lower fence of the first class is given by Q1-1.5(IQR); 76-1.5(18) = 49

There are no outliers in this case.

The upper fence of the first class is given by Q3+1.5(IQR); 94+1.5(18)=121

There are no values greater than 121 meaning there are no outliers greater than the upper fence.

The minimum value, first quartile, median, third quartile and the maximum value from the first

class are; 59, 72, 82, 88 and 98 respectively.

The interquartile range (IQR) is given by Q3-Q1= 88-72=16

The lower fence of the first class is given by Q1-1.5(IQR); 72-1.5(16) = 48

There are no values less than the lower fence hence there are no outliers

The upper fence of the first class is given by Q3+1.5(IQR); 88+1.5(16) = 112

There are no values greater than 112 meaning there are no outliers greater than the upper fence.

The following is the sketch of the boxplot:
