Running head: DIABETES
What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a condition that arises when the blood sugars in the body goes beyond the
optimum limit (North, 2016). To expound on this, let us first the function of insulin in the body.
The food eaten is converted into sugars or glucose. The pancreas should the release insulin which
functions as a “key” which opens the cells so that glucose may enter so that it the glucose may be
used to provide energy. However, the system may not work when a person has diabetes. Number
of things can go wrong thereby triggering the onset of diabetes.
What are the symptoms and health effects of diabetes?
Unusual fatigue and hunger are some common symptoms in a person suffering from
diabetes since the body is not making less insulin or simply resists it and therefore it means that
the cells will not receive glucose for energy hence making a person to experience unusual hunger
Diabetes is also characterized by being thirstier and peeing frequently because of the
failure of bringing the sugar back to normal making the body to fail to re absorb water properly,
hence increasing urine production.
Blurred vision and dry mouth is also another indicator that a person has got diabetes.
When the fluid levels change in the body, the lens eyes may swell thereby altering the shape of
the eye making it to lose its focus.
