Part 1: Comprehensive Risk Assessment Reflection
A risk assessment I conducted for a family member highlighted several factors about their
current health condition. This middle-aged man with a background of hypertension and
hyperlipidemia was evaluated based on Bate's guide to physical examination and history taking,
as categorized by Bickley in his 2021 publication (Bickley, 2021). In a structured interview and
physical examination, I observed several potential risk factors such as low physical activity, high
intake of saturated fats, and stress due to work commitments. Further, the assessment
demonstrated a family medical history showing cardiovascular diseases, putting this person at
even higher risk. As an intervention, I advised the patient to adopt strategies to reduce the risks
inherent in the conditions, including exercising more, having a healthier diet, and managing
stress well. I also wanted to stress periodic check-ups with doctors to ensure that there are no
underlying issues with blood pressure, cholesterol, or any other cardiovascular problems.
From the assessment process, I discovered that building rapport and applying general
questions foster a deeper exploration of the patient's health behaviors and issues. The individual
could openly discuss personal health-related concerns using active listening and empathy.
However, I faced some difficulty getting specific details concerning the dietary history because
the individual failed to give accurate accounts of portion size. In the future, I hope to employ the
food diary or the 24-hour nutritional recall approach and seek patient consent to help me obtain ...
