First assignment What is critical thinking, it is the ability to see multiple sides of an issue, look at differing perspectives and form a logical, possible action based, opinion, rather than just believing what you have read or were told (when only reading or hearing one side of an issue). Basically, asking yourself is there more to this, am I getting all the information? In this discussion, you must answer all three questions below. Cite references and yes you must have references to back up what you are writing; do NOT just provide your opinion (on the first two questions) without backing it up with citations (Wikipedia is not acceptable- though you may be able to use the articles it references). The third question is your opinion BASED on the material in the first two questions, do not answer the first two with supporting references and then provide your opinion based on some material or information not provided in the first two questions (unless it is a personal experience that relates to the material in the first two questions) Strategic planning is understanding where you are, and where you want to go. Some companies require comprehensive strategic plans, others make profit without a formal strategic plan. 1- Strategic Planning is necessary, why? 2- Strategic Planning is not necessary - why? 3- Your opinion based on the above. Second assignment A Strategic Alliance is a partnership or an agreement between two or more organizations, while remaining independent of each other, will work toward common goals. o o o o FIRST PART - Name two companies that formed a strategic alliance that helps each company gain a competitive advantage; like Facebook (social platform) and Zynga (the game maker) The social platform provides a venue for the game maker, the games keep people coming back to the social platform. A strategic alliance is an inter-corporate relationship in an attempt to achieve profitability or
achieve set out objectives and goals. Existing literature affirms that strategic alliances do enable
heightened returns on equity, high success rates and better returns on investments as compared to
other business strategies such as acquisitions and mergers (Ulijn, Duysters & Meijer, 2011).

companies’ profitability by significant margins. The alliance was formed in order to enable Uber
users to have stereo control. Therefore, both organizations tapped into each other’s customer
base to increase their marketability. Another significant and successful strategic alliance was
between Ford and Eddie Bauer. Eddie Bauer provided premium leather seats for Ford while also
