Eating Disorders
Eating disorders denote a condition characterized by irregular eating habits and behaviors
because an individual is not comfortable with their body size and shape. The contemporary
world is dominated by persons who are hypersensitive about the size and shape of their body.
Some of them will do what is within their means to ensure that they attain the perfect body size
and shape. This is most common among females who desire to resemble models and other
influential personalities in various media platforms such as TVs and dailies (Fairburn and
Harrison 409). Most of them develop an obsession to remain fit. In fact, many people spend most
of their teenage years trying to acquire their dream look. The general appearance and outlook of
individuals is an issue of great concern in the contemporary world. The obsession to acquire the
perfect body size and shape has led to the increase in some people with eating disorders.
Nowadays, people place more focus on the body shape, weight and the aspect of
perfectionism. This explains why some people are very keen on the food they eat. Some will eat
less and exercise more in the quest to acquire the perfect body size and shape. There are three
major eating disorders which often manifest among people who are keen on their look
(Thompson & Smolak 12). The first disorder, anorexia nervosa is characterized by an obsession
to reduce the body weight. Individuals who are diagnosed with anorexia nervosa have an
obsessive fear of gaining and will, therefore, miss some meals and engage in rigorous exercises
