Mentoring and coaching require a set of characteristics and approaches in order to
ensure that relevant knowledge, skills, and experience is shared with the coachees. This
becomes particularly important when the coachees are expected to coach other groups, which
means that leadership development should come into play. The purpose of this paper is to
analyze the characteristics of a given case study, identify the characteristics of an organization
carrying out coaching and mentoring, and discuss characteristics required in leading such as
organization, which should then help in the development of a set of skills needed in coaching,
mentoring, and leadership development.
The learning program was carried out through the Community Coaching Café (CCC)
program. This program was initiated by the Enterprise Pathways (EP) company with a focus
on the welfare of the community, community support, and empowerment. The primary goal
of the program was to reach members of the community and share with them their experience
in order to help them in their day to day activities. The groups seeking these services were
diverse and ranged from students, the unemployed, and the employed within the community.
Since these groups had diverse needs, EP focused on establishing a team of committed
volunteers with diverse capabilities and skills. By training volunteers, profiling their skills,
and matching them with various clients, it was then possible to create more relevant matches,
which enabled the company to best meet the needs of the community that it was serving.
These volunteers were expected to share their experiences and the knowledge they had gained
during training through the adoption of a client-focused approach that was guided by the
needs of those seeking the services. In the end, it was then possible to create customized
