Research at least two or three major events in the history of labor-management relations. Based on your research, synthesize the information and formulate a thesis regarding labor-management relations. You may consider what strategies were effective or ineffective from the perspective of the union or management. You could also discuss what you would have done (or would have done differently) from the viewpoint of labor or management relating to U.S. labor relations.

Use a thesis sentence in the introductory paragraph and clearly state your main point. Do not make the mistake of simply repeating the results of your research. You should show an understanding of the research by explaining the processes and dynamics that drive labor relations. Provide citations to the facts to support your thesis.

For example, you could adopt the thesis that unions have become irrelevant in the private workforce in the 21st Century because the competitive pressure to hire the best workers requires that management voluntarily provide the benefits previously won by union action, such as better pay, benefits and working conditions for employees. You can support this thesis by referring to specific evidence of private employers that succeed in hiring the best workers and provide better pay and benefits without any union activity.

Write this paper in the third person. Use at least 5 scholarly references (peer-reviewed) in addition to the course textbook. Papers should contain at least 5 pages of text, double spaced and Roman Times 12 point font, but not more than 8 pages.

Introduction
Over the past decades, America’s labor unions have had the unprecedented authority and
a lot of responsibilities in making sure that the welfare of workers are monitored. Following the
past economic status of the United States, the growth of the labor unions was less rapid
compared to other European countries. In the United States of America, labor unions are being
used as the mediator between workers and employers. In most occasions, workers always feel
like their rights are still messed with. Therefore they seek to negotiate with their employers to
allow them to gain control over the fruits of their labor. Therefore labor union can be defined as
the organization that is established with the purpose of representing the members to their
employees on issues dealing with wages, terms, and conditions of employment and to make sure
that the welfare of the workers is kept in check. The paper tries to analyze at least two events in
the history of the labor management and to check the effectiveness and ineffectiveness of the
unions and discuss what could have been done to improve the unions.
The main objectives of the labor unions are to increase wages, to monitor the working
days and hours of workers especially the members. Other purposes include; making sure that the
workers achieve significant benefits for their labor, they get the right working conditions.
Regardless of the stated goals, the early labor unions faced a lot of difficulties especially from
the government and the employers. In the United States, labor unions represented around thirtyfive percent of the workers in the year 1954. Currently, about twelve percent of the labor force is
under a union (Spykman, 2017).
