QUESTION 1

Introduction
Considering the 14th century, Italy was made up of states of various sizes with
differentiated customs, norms, and forms of government. Despite the division, Italy was
united in their national identity thus the Roman and Greek art was respected. However,
different leaders recognized the art differently.

Florence
In Florence, where an autonomy of soul and keenness had prospered since the
season of Dante (1265-1321), this new feeling of pride in social accomplishment was
considerably more prominent than in other Italian states. Pope Boniface VII had perceived
the resourcefulness and creativity of the Florentines as ahead of schedule as 1300, when
he complimented one of their emissaries by commenting, "You Florentines are the fifth
component." The Pope was alluding to the general contemporary conviction that the world
was made out of four components - fire, water, air, and earth. The fifth component was
the virtuoso that the Florentines had added to the make-up of the universe. Amid the
fourteenth century, this metro virtuoso made substantial imaginative progress in PreRenaissance painting, because of Giotto di Bondone (Paoletti & Radke, 2012).

By 1400, this momentous city had achieved an abnormal state of thriving as a
result of her vital position on the central Mediterranean exchange courses, and her sound
fleece industry, which created material for a lot of Europe.
