Risks of Diabetes Mellitus
One of the most common risks of DM is recurrent falling. According to Yang et al.
(2016), falling is a leading cause of physical injuries in older persons suffering from DM.
Furthermore, falling is linked to risk of fracture and frequent hospitalization for trauma.
Frequent and recurrent falling further reduces any physical engagement of the patient as well
as social interactions (Yang et al., 2016).
Another risk is that patients are at high risk of functional incapacitation. Ideally, DM
in older persons affects various crucial body functions and processes leading to frailty and
