Module 01 Discussion – Time, Place, and History 150 words min Module 01 Discussion – Time, Place, and History After reading the poem and selected short stories for this week "A Worn Path" by Eudora Welty, you should have noticed that the stories share a commonality of how history, culture, and the background of the author all played an important role in developing works of literature in the 20th century. For your initial discussion post, share your thoughts on how history, culture, and the background of the author played key roles in developing one of the stories and on the poem you were assigned. • • How are men portrayed versus women? What key struggles did the characters undergo which revealed important information about the time period and their culture or background? Your initial post should name the specific work and use quotes or lines from the readings. Be sure to acknowledge the source. For responses to your peers, you may choose to reply to more than one student. Work to make your initial discussion post thoughtful and detailed - and respond to one or more other students with the same careful thought and be specific. • • Think of how you felt reading the story and then compare that with how your peer responded. Did you find any outside resources or did the background of the author add any additional understanding? If so, share that in your reply to peers. Responses should use in-text citations where needed. You do not have to post a Reference line for the reply unless you are adding outside resources (article links) about the reading. Please make your initial post by midweek, and respond to at least one other student's post by the end of the week. Please check the Course Calendar for specific due dates. HOW TO GET IN It might be confusing to locate our readings. I've attached a screen shot to help. All our readings can be found in e-textbooks or linked within our course. 1. You need to go to the "main page" of our site by clicking on SUM18-6Ws1-ONP-LIT3382-01 on the left side of your screen within Engage or in the “THEN CLICK ON” that I provide you. 2. Then, move to the center of the screen. The end of the "Getting Started" title on the center frame contains the links to the main textbooks. 3. Still looking at the center of the screen, under the center frame in Module 01- Modern Literature, you will find the other two readings for the week and the links. Always check the weekly reading list under this center frame on the main page. To find the books 40 Shorts Stories and for the project The Curious dog in the Night-Time
