4 Questions in Microprocessor Architecture
1. Convert the following decimal number into:-7.125
a) single-precision floating-point number
Answer and solutions:
When it comes to single precision, it consists of 32 bits,
1 BIT
SIGN

8 BITS
EXPONENT

23 BITS
MANTISSA

Knowing that;
The Sign bit = 1 ( _ve value)
Exponent field = 10000001
Mantissa field = 1.1100100000000000000000
This is because 7 binary = 0111
Remaining value = 0.125 x 2 -> 0.25 -> 0
=0.25 x 2 -> 0.5 -> 0
=0.5 x 2 -> 1
= 0111.001
So, moving the decimal value to the left side and it takes 3 decimal place to move,
→ 0.111001 x 23
23 (mantissa)...
