Data warehousing involves electronic storage of large amount of information by business
enterprises. Data warehousing is a concept that was introduced by the IBM researchers in 1988.
The researchers included Paul Murphy and Barry Devlin. One of the reasons as to why these
researchers came up with the data warehousing concept was due to increase in amounts of data.
This made it hard for the computer systems to handle all the data. Inmon Bill is considered as the
father of data warehouse since he wrote about usage, building as well as the maintenance of data
warehouse. A data warehouse receives information from one or more sources. The date stored
can be unstructured, structured or semi-structured. A data warehouse is more organized since all
the information is merged together. According to 1 (Biere 32), all the data is transformed,
processed and then ingested so that the processed data can be accessed through the business
intelligence tools, spreadsheets and SQL clients. A data warehouse must have four components.
