Despite the efforts of public health professionals to educate and change behaviors, people still have poor eating habits, do not exercise, smoke tobacco, take illicit drugs, etc. Hypothesize what could be done to actually change behaviors based on what you have learned through the Readings.
Use a successful campaign from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report found at the following website, with statistics to illustrate community improvement.

There are many ways that people can change to live healthier lives. So many people make poor health habits every day, that effect their health long-term. Smoking, lack of exercise, and bad meal choices are just a few ways the people damage their health. Based on my reading this week, I have learned that there are many support groups and help systems that will allow people to change their unhealthy habits. There are many support groups where people with similar problems can discuss their issues and not feel alone in the journey to live a healthier life. Some people just need support from others and need to know that they are not alone in the process. It might be hard these days to imagine you are the only person with unhealthy habits, when so many people brag about their healthy lives. Healthy eating is trending now, and there are many restaurants and stores focusing on healthy options. This can make people making unhealthy choices feel isolated or alone. Many social media groups are focused to help people make healthier decisions as well. If someone does not want to go to a support group, they can also hire a personal nutritionist or trainer to help them make better health habits. Having help is always the best method to change poor health habits. Other ways that are common to help prevent making poor health choices would be to log and keep track of your daily meals and activity. When a person sees what they are putting into their body, it can be easier to stop making bad choices. Finding partners for gym workouts is also a great suggestion, because people can push each other to set goals and not give up.
The campaign that I found that illustrates community improvement was the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR). This campaign is showing and describing how the lack of health insurance negatively effects people’s health choices. When people do not have health insurance, they can not afford to go to the doctor or health specialist when something is wrong. This leads to many people who are in poverty to make poor health choices, and live unhealthier lives. Many programs will help people with low incomes to have health insurance so that they can be examined regularly by doctors. This article is describing different health insurance coverage depending on people’s occupations for adults ages 18-64. I think these programs and campaigns are extremely important to people who are making poor health decisions, because it can change their choices for the better. It will give people who make less money more opportunity to get the help and support that they need.

I chose National HIV Testing Day. It is not hard for me to believe that people are still not making choices to prevent them from contracting the disease. What I find very amusing is that when those that do opt for testing when they find out they are infected now all of a sudden they are concerned about their health and taking their antivirals on schedule. This was and is a very successful campaign in my city because the testing is offered free of charge, and if you receive a positive result you are connected with an organization that can help you with counseling needs and medication as needed.
The key to reducing new HIV infections is getting tested and knowing your HIV status. If a person is HIV positive, with proper medical care, they can live long and healthy lives. With an undetectable viral load, they cannot transmit the virus to another person. If a person is HIV negative, PrEP – a daily pill that is up to 99% effective at preventing HIV – and consistent condom use can greatly reduce the risk of new infections.
Hypothetically what could be done to try to change the behaviors of the actions that cause HIV infection is to not offer any assistance what so ever if you contract the disease from doing unsafe things to get the virus.
