Introduction
A restorative justice process is a form of judicial procedure that strives to include every
party associated with a criminal activity, whether it is the victim, the offender, or even the family
and friends. It happens through cooperative procedures that bring together all the stakeholders
involved in the justice process as opposed to the contemporary criminal justice system. This is
because the contemporary justice system works as a passive participant due to its focus on
providing back up support.
The Process of Restorative Justice System
Three elements make up the process of the restorative justice system, and they include
mutual, voluntary consent to participate, following through with agreements, and meeting in a
mediated setting. The mutual, voluntary agreement to meet involves the willingness of the victim
and the offender to meet without pressure or coercion from anyone. This is the establishing phase
of whether the criminal matter should fall under a restorative or retributive justice system (Strang
