The evolution of technology has triggered the strategic managers in the human resource
planning to embrace the use of technological systems in their operations. Human resource
information systems are used to denote the electronic systems that are embraced in compiling the
information in various databases to ensure easy evaluation and access of the information(Qadir
and Agrawal, 2017). Most of the information systems work by allowing the automation of
various operations and processes. Other information systems work by streamlining the processes
and minimizing the demand for manual entry. For this reason, the accuracy and efficiency of the
information are enhanced. In order to comprehend the benefits of the human resource
information systems and the merits associated with the implementation of the human resource
information systems in the organization, it is imperative to explore on the various types of the
Human Resource Information Systems Applications (Haines and Petit, 2010). This paper,
therefore, explores the various types of the HRIS applications, their functions, the benefits of
implementing such applications and how the applications support the day to day human resource
Operational Human Resource Information System Application
The Operational Human Resource Information system provides an opportunity for the
manager to carry out repetitive and routine human resource responsibilities. The system mainly
offers information regarding the employees of a particular corporation, the government rules and
regulations and the positions of the employees in the organization. The operation HRIS
applications can be subdivided into various categories (Haines and Petit, 2010). These include;
employee information system, position control systems, performance management information
systems and the applicant selection and placement information systems.

The employee information systems aid the human resource managers to keep track of the
information regarding their employees. Ideally, the corporations are required to keep the
professional personal details of the employees. This type of system consists of the human
resource profile records. The system also contains information regarding the skills and
experience of the employees of the particular organization (Qadir and Agrawal, 2017). The
employee information system is important as it allows easy access to the employee information.
As such, the human resource managers can make decisions regarding hiring and promoting of
employees by embracing the use of the information.
The position control system is important as it aids in the identification of each position in
the corporation. The system also classifies the positions in their respective job titles. The primary
benefit of implementing the position control system in the organization is that it helps in
ascertaining the employees who are assigned to various positions. The system helps in the day to
day running of the human resource management responsibilities since it gives an opportunity for
the human resource manager to ascertain the information regarding the unfilled job positions in
the workplace (Haines and Petit, 2010).
The performance management information systems entail the documentation of the
information regarding the performance of the employee. The main function of the performance
management system in the corporation is that it gives an opportunity for the human resource
managers to evaluate the performance of the employees and make decisions regarding the
promotion and provision of the incentives to the employees (Haines and Petit, 2010). One of the
benefits associated with the implementation of the performance management system in the
company is that it helps in the evaluation of performance to ascertain the training and
development needs of the employees (Qadir and Agrawal, 2017). It supports the human resource

responsibilities by giving the human resource managers an opportunity to evaluate performance
and provide incentives and promotions in the areas of improvement.
