The United States of America constitution was made so as to establish a national
government and fundamental laws which were to ensure basic citizens’ rights. Before the
constitution, the states functioned as independent countries. The constitution was written during
the summer of 1787 in Pennsylvania, by the delegates from twelve different states, to act instead
of the articles from the confederation with a different form of governing the people which would
separate power into three significant units which included both the reserved and the concurrent
power of states, (Black,1960). The three arms of government were; namely, the legislature in
charge of enacting laws, the judiciary would ensure the laws of the country are safeguarded and
upheld while the executive would enforce authority and take on the responsibility of governing
the country.
The amendments that were the first made to the constitution make up the bill of rights.
The changes were ten in number. James Madison is known for having written the bill of rights.
The bill lists the prohibitions on the governmental power for the greater protection for individual
liberties. Gorge Washington headed the constitutional convention that framed the new
government through James Madison who was known by many as “the father of the constitution”
because of his significant contribution in the making of the new government. Those who
supported the constitution were known as federalists while those who disagreed were known as
the anti-federalists. To get to where we are today, we’ve had to go through a lot of changes in the
constitution to provide a more efficient government. In 1789, September 25th, Congress gave
twelve amendments that were to be made to the constitution. In September 1787 the
constitutional amendments had been sent to the states so that it would be ratified, it was required
