Windows Server 2012 can be significant for a small or a large network. In order for a
successful deployment a business will rely on the design and how the implementation of the
network. Planning ahead will help keep the process run smooth. Understanding the new features
will help determine what will be needed for the system. Hyper-V Server is a full-featured,
enterprise-class, stand-alone Microsoft hypervisor, provides an excellent virtual platform that
will not require constant updates. (Server, 2016). A benefit is Hyper-V only uses 50% of the disk
space. Its hardware compatibility with any of the Windows Server, and it groups fully with
Microsoft System Center and Windows technologies like DNS and SHCP, Active Directory,
Windows Update, File and Printer Sharing, and Application Services.
The first step that is needed for deploying Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V will be is
to figure out how many servers will be needed. Between the two location of Littleton, Colorado
and Tucson, Arizona there will be 10 virtual permits for the Operating System. Server Core will
have to be on all servers in order for it to be secure and reliable. The majority of the servers will
be manages from Littleton, Co and 6 servers will be located in Tucson. Windows Vista Service
Pack 1 will be running 50 desktops. Windows Vista will be beneficial because of its operational
capabilities. Windows Server will let the company be able to take care of their entire network
infrastructure by one server that will installed by using Windows deployment services. Driver
packages can be added if needed to any of the servers and are able to configure the deployment.
WDS will make the operating systems for the desktops faster.

A way to update and distribute IP addresses is by using DHCP that will automatically do
that and is able to configure any network information. (TechNet, 2003). DHCP severs provide
the information to a DHCP client through the exchange of a series of messages, known as the
DHCP conversation or transaction. DHCP infrastructure will be sued for the network. It gives
support and services to any branch of the organization. Split DNS will be beneficial for both
internet and intranet resources. You will be able to distribute the IP addresses however you want.
In this case I am going to use 75% in Littleton and 25% in Tucson since it is a smaller location.
This will free traffic from the WAN link between the two organizations. The mesh for the DHCP
will be used by the percentage of the scope diving for the fault tolerance.
An Active Directory will be needed in order to be able to manage any risk from a user’s that will
be working from anywhere and will be able to protect sensitive data from any devices that will be using. .
There will be two domain controllers one for each location. The backup and the domain manager will be
at the Littleton location. Tucson will be a Read-Only domain for efficiency. By using a RODC for the
Tucson site it will be able relieve some of the traffic between the two offices for the WAN connection.
The parent domain will be named LIL.local and the child domains will be named TUC.local. LIL.local
will have the president, human resources, sales, accounting and the IT department.
The group scope for the OU will have to be global because this department will be
working at both of the locations. Share permissions and NTFS will have to be configured for the
data of the financial department from the other departments from the ones that are listed. The
only one that will have full command and will be able to make changes will be the President.
The manager of the administration department will be able to decide what permission will be
alone.

All employees will have their own personal folder for things that do not need to be
shared. Portions will be split up between the two servers at the different locations. Placing a
localized document services will allow access to it if the WAN connection runs slow. Using a
file scheme will synchronize everything so that both locations have all the updated files. DFS
will synchronize the DFS namespaces and will isolate differential compression. DFS will be used
as a directory or can be used for instruction for any users. The DFS will be the domain-based
namespace that any user will be able to access at both of the locations.
DFS is beneficial because the namespace server is a domain controller or a member
server. Namespace root is the starting point of the namespace. This type of namespace is a
domain-based namespace because it begins with a domain name and its metadata is stored in
Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS). Folders without folder targets add structure and
hierarchy to the namespace, and folders with folder targets provide users with actual content. The
folder target is the UNC path of the shared folder or another namespace that is associated with a
folder in a namespace. (Library, 2013)This folder target that will be used will have the data and
content stored there. This enables both the locations to use the folder.
File server asset manager can be used for supervision and can regulate document storage.
They will have a certain amount that will be limited to them only. File Server Resource Manager
Tool helps to set quota on file folders. It is also used to allow or prohibit files. The quotas will
have to be configured so that an alert will be sent to the administrators that will let them know
that a user is coming close to what they are able to use which is known as a soft quota. A hard
quota is used for controlling disk space. Document partitions will be configured for the shared

and public folders that will help keep vital documents safe from users that are not authorized to
read them.
Creating group policies will help protect vital information and can be done through
Microsoft Systems Management Services (SMS). The group policies allow you to apply detailed
configuration for the computers. GPO’s are the main reason to deploy Active Directory that
allows any authorized employee to manage the computers. They are able to use these policies in
order to limit users from doing or reading that that they do not need to know about. It also helps
protect computers from user’s installing software that could be used as a hacker’s way to get into
the vital infrastructure.

Windows server 2012 proposal
Introduction
This document incorporates Windows Server 2012 Proposal remembering the given scenario.
Deploying Windows Server 2012 is a significant undertaking, even on a small network or
system. Just the task of planning a Windows Server 2012 deployment can be a intimidating
process, particularly in a large enterprise. The successfulness of business relies on design and
implementation of business network enterprise. Heedful planning can also help you keep away
from common hindrances by helping you recognize potential pitfalls and then figure out how
best to eschew them. In this various topics have been covered, for example, new Features of
Windows Server 2012, Deployment and Server Editions, Application Services , File and Printer
Sharing, active directory, DNS and DHCP.
New Features of Windows Server 2012
One of the advantages of the new Server Manager interface is the ability to make server groups,
which are accumulations of servers that already exist on your network and can be managed
through the new user experience. Making new server groups gives you a chance to manage tasks
among each server with common attributes—a server group holding all machines running IIS,
for instance, a group of all database servers, and so on—and provide particular information on
any of them as you wish. This is a big blessing for organizations which are not having their
dedicated monitoring software in place.
The Hyper-V Replica feature permits you to replicate a virtual machine from one location to
another with Hyper-V and a network connection—and without the need of any shared storage
needed. This is a major deal in the Microsoft world for disaster recuperation, high availability
and more. This is done by VMware also but in that case new licensees are made to pay extra .
Windows server 2012 proposal
There are hundreds more cmdlets in the most recent version of Windows Server. This will make
your life easier and less demanding, since PowerShell is basically the preferred method for
dealing with all of the workloads you can run on the operating system.
Deployment and Server Editions
Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V will be employed on all servers all over the enterprise.
Hyper-V will backing WAI’s workload, with its extended support for host processors and
memory. Also Hyper-V will permit WAI to use existing servers while still taking benefit of new
hardware technology for virtualization now and later on. Server Core will be put on all servers
Windows server 2012 proposal
for reliability and security. There will be a total no. of 10 servers for the WAI’s internal system.
Windows Server 2012 will permit WAI to deal with its entire Windows network infrastructure as
a single server in its Los Angeles office, with four servers living at the New York office. All
operating systems and servers will be installed using Windows Deployment Services (WDS).
This will permit the deployment of images for WAI’s mixed environment. Multicasting will be
utilized to transmit the images and data and we will create the important images using the Image
Capture Wizard. This will permit driver packages to be added to the servers and configured to be
deployed with the customer computers and install image.
Active Directory
Proper practice with domain controllers needs at least two for every active directory. There are
two domain controllers, one for every site at Worldwide Advertising. I have put a main domain
controller and backup at the Los Angeles office and a Read Only Domain Controller (RODC) at
the branch office for effectiveness. Placing a RODC at the branch site will free the WAN
connection of not needed traffic. Active Directory Integrated Zones will be utilized so that DNS
replication traffic can be processed through the Active directory. The domain controllers have
universal reach.
The parent domain is WAI local with the child domains for each one site respectively NY WAI
local and LA WAI local. Departments are built as organizational units which contain all
employees at both sites. The various Organizational units are Finance, IT, Production,
Accounting etc. The Group scope for the OUs is worldwide because they enclose all employees
at two areas. NTFS and share authorizations will be configured strictly to prevent financial data
from departments other than the individuals who direct work with the data. Permission variations
Windows server 2012 proposal
for clients can be done by the head administrator. The Active Directory schema for Worldwide
Advertising Inc. might take about a few hours at most and could be fulfilled by one
administrator.
DNS and DHCP
A hybrid DHCP infrastructure can be utilized for this. The hybrid approach gives some
decentralized services and support in the branch; however, most services and support are given
from a central site. A fundamental DHCP server will be there. There will additionally be relay
agents at New York office and backup at Los Angeles office. The traffic will unquestionably be
decreased by this approach. 10.0.0.1-10.0.1.200 can be location range on main DHCP, 10.0.0.110.0.0.90 is the exclusion, and 10.0.0.91-10.0.1.200 is the split scope DHCP exclusion. By
configuring the 80/20 failover approach, you utilize two DHCP servers to make a
disproportionate amount of IP addresses available to customers for leasing. Here, you have a
primary DHCP server which is configured with 80 percent of the available IP addresses and a
backup DHCP server that is configured with 20 percent of the available IP addresses. This
situation is perfect when the DHCP servers are separated from each other, for example, when the
primary DHCP server is on the primary subnet and the backup DHCP server is on a smaller
remote subnet. Although this approach is intended to give some redundancy and fault tolerance,
it is conceivable that the primary would be logged off too long and the backup DHCP server
would run out of available IP addresses. Assuming that this were to happen, no IP addresses
would be available to customers looking for new leases, and they might be configured to utilize
APIPA.
Windows server 2012 proposal
For clients that need a constant IP address, you can either configure a static IP address manually,
or allocate a reservation on the DHCP server. Reservations that are utilized to make sure that a
specified client on a subnet can always utilize the same IP address are permanent lease
assignments .You can utilize DHCP reservations for hosts that need a consistent IP address, but
don't have to be statically configured.
Application Services
Applications will be server based and accessible utilizing terminal services architecture through
Microsoft Systems Management Services (SMS). Group Policy is a framework that permits you
to apply specific configurations for clients and computers. Group Policy settings are stored in
Group Policy objects (GPOs), which are connected to the following Active Directory service
containers: sites, domains, or organizational units (OUs). The settings within GPOs are then
accessed by the affected targets, utilizing the hierarchical nature of Active Directory. Hence,
Group Policy is one of the top reasons to deploy Active Directory because it allows you to
manage user and computer objects. For scaling reasons, we have a few ways on how this GPO
can be pushed to server. There are many ways such as pushing security group or an entire
domain. This is carried out through GPO filtering. You can utilize the Policies to limit particular
users from doing things you may not need them to do such as installing additional software or
tweaking with distinctive settings. Nowadays, you will regularly hear words like 'zero-day
exploits' flowing in the security-savvy circles and you may feel a slight wave of paranoia
surpassing you. As opposed to piling tons of programs only to keep away the doomsday virus
from your machine, you can utilize a few simple policies and prevent the disaster from ever
getting developed.
Windows server 2012 proposal
Group Policies are extremely efficient, do not toll the resources and need negligible
maintenance, once fully configured. The applications that will be available for the customers to
leverage through web access are; Microsoft SharePoint 2010 that incorporates MS-Word,
PowerPoint, Access, Excel, and Outlook and Inuit QuickBooks ProAdobe.
File and Printer Sharing
File and printer sharing are the former services offered by Microsoft systems. The File and
Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks component permits other computers on a network to
acquire resources on your computer by utilizing a Microsoft network.
Shares will be split up among two servers at both sites, hence making a total of four servers for
the network introduced with file services. By putting a local file services at each one site permits
toleration if the WAN connection fails and minimizes WAN traffic also.
This component is installed as well as enabled by default for all VPN connections. However, this
component have to be enabled for PPPoE and dial-up connections. It is enabled for every
connection and is important to share local folders.
Distributed File System (DFS) permits you to share folders that are stored on multiple servers
utilizing a consistent and logical namespace. Microsoft Windows Server 2012 permits you to
include the DFS role (replication and namespace). File Server Resource Manager (FSRM) in
Windows Server 2012, is a set of tools that set asides for windows file server management. This
tool might be utilized to set quota on file folders, permit and prohibit files relying upon file
extension and run report against data that exist on the file server. The quota management can set
quota limits.
Windows server 2012 proposal
There are two types of quotas: soft quotas and hard quotas. A soft quota implies that the disk
space limits are not enforced. A user will be permitted to go over the quota and won't be
prevented from including extra data. Soft quotas are useful for monitoring usage and producing
notifications. A hard quota implies that disk space limits are enforced. A user won't be permitted
to store information beyond what has been allowed in the quota. Hard quotas are utilized for
controlling disk space usage particularly in SLA situations where clients pay for set blocks of
storage.
Share Quotas
In the FSRM administrative tool, click on Quota Management then Quotas. Click on Create
Quota. A folder is selected that is shared to the department: D:\Shares\marketing. Microsoft
suggests utilizing quota templates for producing quotas rather instead of setting everything
manually unfailingly. You can change the disk space limit from the Quota Properties screen and
control whether this is a hard or a soft quota. You can additionally make changes to the
notifications that end clients receive when the quota starts reaching your pre-planned thresholds.
User Quotas
Setting user quotas in FSRM isn’t as direct as shares, yet it might be done. To begin with, we’ll
begin off in the FSRM administrative tool, Quota Management after that Quotas. Now Click on
Create Quota. After clicking on create option, you’ll be taken once again to the main screen of
the FSRM administrative tool. At that point select the user share’s quota entry, and choose Edit
Quota Properties. Several options appear:
Apply auto apply quota just too derived quotas that match the original auto apply quota.
Apply auto apply quota to all derived quotas.
Windows server 2012 proposal
Don't apply auto apply quota to derived quotas

Outline
This portfolio project paper will support a network substructure for a new company
Worldwide Advertising Inc. a new player in the advertising filed. This paper will explain each
part of the network and how my company Your Network and IT Solutions and Support Inc.
When my company is done the network will permit Worldwide Advertising Inc. to effectively
share information between the New York and your Los Angles locations. This paper will exhibit
how to install the windows server 2012 operating system in addition, setup and create services
needed for a reliable and secure network for Worldwide Advertising Inc.
Worldwide Advertising Inc. Organizing and Setup of Windows Server 2012
Worldwide Advertising Inc. is a new company in the advertising filed with offices in
New York and Los Angeles. My company Your Network and IT Solutions and Support Inc. was
hired for the organizing and setup of windows server 2012. My company will make sour your
network will be secured and dependable and support your new workforce of 300 employees and
also be able to provide accommodations for future employees. Your Network and IT Solutions
and Support Inc. will use the latest technology with in your companies’ budget. In addition, I
will make sure the latest technology will last for two to three years so your company can step up
an internal IT department. Your Network and IT Solutions and Support Inc. will provide free
network support until you get your own IT department. Furthermore, am drafting up a proposal
that will outline on how my company plans to deploy for your network such as, the network
design, the deployment of the servers and which edition of windows server 2012 to use, your
DNS name place. Additionally, an active directory plus file and printer sharing choices.
Network and the Deployment of Servers

I believe fore servers will be adequate to handle Worldwide Advertising Inc.300
employees. The office in Los Angles will have three servers one of the servers in the Los Angles
will be used for daily backups for both locations. One server will adequate for the New York
office because of fewer employees. The servers will be running Windows Server 2012 R2
Datacenter edition. The purpose for using the datacenter edition is “The Hyper-V virtualization
can now support up to 64 virtual processors and 1TB of memory for guests, compared with the
old limit of four virtual processors and 64GB of memory. In addition, it has been updated to
handle faster data transfers and the OS's Server Manager has been updated to handle multiple
servers at once.” (Jackson, J. 2012, September 10). Furthermore, the servers can be setup to run
unlimited virtual machines it is suggested to virtualize the servers for distribution in limited
space and to reduce the cost of running several real servers. In addition, with Hyper-V this will
allow Worldwide Advertising Inc. to use the current servers and still be able to utilize new
hardware to virtualize now and the near future. Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter has several
new additions that were not part of Windows Server 2008 so this make Windows Server 2012 R2
Datacenter the best choice for an operating system. In addition, this will allow for future growth
based on the company’s needs. Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization will accommodate several
different functions to be copied with the fore servers. This will help reduce cost on hardware for
the servers and permits an easier configuration and it cuts down on system resources need to
sustain the different roles for each of the servers. The Hyper-V and file and print services will
use one of the servers another server will be used for the DNS and DHCP. One server will be
used as a Web Server and the last server will be used for all of the information in the Active
Directory. All server function and operating systems will be installed with the windows
deployment severs tool which will aid both locations with all of the installed components. In
ITS405 PORTFOLIO PROJECT ORGANIZING AND SETUP OF WINDOWS SERVER 2012
4
addition, this tool will allow the future IT team to install updates when required. Likewise,
installing images by the way of multi-casting this is the quickest way for several clients and
servers to obtain windows deployment severs images at once. This will make the IT staffs job
much simpler on imaging hosts and clients.
Domain Name Systems
Domain name systems servers convert domain names into IP address Worldwide
Advertising Inc. will have numerous external DNS and internal DNS sites that will be used from
different areas within the company for example executives, human resources department, sales
department, and the IT department. The company will need internal DNS structure to handle the
different departments which will be an entirely separate DNS role controlled from a virtual
server. The external network server will have its DNS server that will listed as www.WaiInc.net.
In addition, the Los Angles internal DNS server will be wai.La.net and the New York office will
be Wai.Ny.net. Using an internal and external DNS split will be a more secure network.
Worldwide Advertising Inc. will need to have a VPN arranged to use IPSec t for secure
tunneling and with the VPN the New York location will not need their own DNS server.
Active Directory Design
There are going to several OUs for both locations they will be several departments for the
Executives, the IT department, Human Recourse department, the Production department,
Accounts and Sales, and the Finances department. The OUs will each have specific permissions
in place to avoid file sharing or unplanned access from different departments. A child OU will be
setup with higher permissions for upper Managers and Executive personal. Group polices will be
used in both places since all employees will on the servers and it will offer better security.
ITS405 PORTFOLIO PROJECT ORGANIZING AND SETUP OF WINDOWS SERVER 2012
“Group Policy, the set of rules providing administrative control over users and computers in an
Active Directory environment, enables IT to use the organization's existing Group Policy
infrastructure to deploy security and desktop settings that ensure compliance with corporate
standards. Group Policy plays a major role in establishing a secure and compliant network
environment, regulating everything from critical business processes and security settings to
individual workstations and printers.” (Seven tips for using group policy in Windows.
2010). Since Worldwide Advertising Inc. will have 300 employees in sever different
departments the employees will have different group polices permissions and rights depending
on position in the company. However, the New York office has a small number of employees
there will be a read only domain controller put into service to reduce the danger to the Active
Directory it will also provide better security. Below is a simple Active Directory design with
DNS namespace.
(Kling, J. 2001).
File and print Sharing
5
ITS405 PORTFOLIO PROJECT ORGANIZING AND SETUP OF WINDOWS SERVER 2012
6
There will be a virtual file server in a central site on the network so users can share and
print files. Using Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter edition will permit users to share their
local files thorough the company in a shared directory or restrict it to users that have permission.
Furthermore, each department can be setup through group police so certain employees can only
assess the shared files. The virtual file server will be using a cached version of the software
reducing cost for Worldwide Advertising Inc. For example, accessing the file server will be
easier and faster than having to install the software on the work stations.
Conclusion
Worldwide Advertising Inc. will benefit from the deployment of Windows Server
2012 R2 Datacenter edition setup to their network. Having the newest servers with powerful
components and specific roles the company and employees will acquire an internal DNS server
for storage of local and shared files and inclusive group polices to impose rules for all
employees. The network will provide support for trouble-free upgrading and allow the addition
of more servers as they are required.

ITS405 Portfolio Project Scenario
Worldwide Advertising, Inc. (WAI), a new advertising firm, has hired you as an IT consultant. WAI is
currently hiring staff and establishing two locations, and they also have a need to get their internal IT
services configured. The firm does not yet have an IT staff, but when they do, that staff will take over all
aspects of IT administration.
You are required to supply WAI with a solution that describes the implementation and configuration of
their core IT services. The cost of the implementation is not expected to exceed the company’s budget,
so it does not have to be considered in this solution. WAI wants to implement a solution that will meet
the company’s needs for the next two to three years.
There are several details about WAI that will have an impact on your choices:
1. WAI will start with 300 employees in the following departments:
a. Executives (10 employees) – Manage and run the company
b. Accounts and Sales Department (150 employees) – Perform market research and maintain
accounts
c. Creative, Media, and Production Department (100 employees) – Advertising
d. Human Resources and Finances (30 employees) – Perform HR and financial duties
e. IT (10 employees) – Manage IT for the company
2. WAI will have two sites, one in Los Angeles and one in New York. Most staff will be located in
Los Angeles, with at least one person from each of the departments above located in New York
City.
3. Networking equipment is already in place for both sites. A secure tunnel (using IPSec) will be
established between the two sites so that inter‐site traffic can be securely tunneled over the
internet. You may make whatever other assumptions you wish about intra‐ and inter‐site
connectivity.
4. Security mechanisms (e.g., firewalls, intrusion detection) will be handled separately, and there is
no need to describe them.
5. Some departments will want their data to remain private from other departments (e.g.,
Finances personnel will not want Production staff to see the company's financial details). Your
team may make assumptions about how data should be shared or kept private.
6. Assumptions can be made regarding any information not included here; however, all
assumptions should be identified.
