Injury and violence have been identified as one of the leading health indicators among the
Healthy People 2020 framework. Launched by the Department of Health and Human Services in
2010, Healthy People has four main objectives among them to attain high-quality, longer lives
free of preventable diseases, disability, injury, and premature death. To improve the health and
the social welfare of the general public, reducing violence and injury is of central importance.
According to Chong, Lee, and Victorino (2015), fatal and non-fatal injuries is one of the major
public health concern globally. Other than overburdening the health care system, injuries
sustained by individuals also impact the society negatively since they often lead to loss of
productivity and overdependence on others leading to serious socioeconomic consequences.
Motor vehicles crashes, homicide, domestic and school violence, child abuse and neglect,
suicide, and unintentional drug overdose are identified as some of the major sources of injuries
