Question Description

Please review the feedback I left you carefully. In order to receive the full 5 extra credit points, you must make a checklist of 3-5 things you can work on andwhy when preparing Sunday's final draft. Your reflection must be 100-200 words. Please submit an MLA-formatted document with your word count as a 5th line in the heading. Use a .doc, .docx, or .pdf file format. Make sure you are using complete sentences, though bullet points or numbering is acceptable.

Here are the three most pressing things to work on for your final draft:

-Aim for an introduction, 3-5 body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Right now, you have too many paragraph breaks and should not be labeling any of your sections.

-You need 4-6 current and credible sources. Right now, your sources are not credible. Review the “Researching Credible Sources” handout for more clarification on this. Avoid web sites.

-All sources should be quoted or paraphrased in text and those references should be green. I need to be able to tell the difference between your ideas and the ones from your sources.

Matti 1 Sandra Matti Professor Sarah Martin English 120 22 July 2018 Word Count: 1,198 Technology and Transportation Technology has been integral in our daily lives regardless of the field someone ventures into or the social status of the latter. Therefore, this form of technology can be associated with both advantages and disadvantages as perceived by the individuals that are directly or indirectly affected by the latter in the transport sector (Transportation Technology). The modernization of the transport sector courtesy of technology forms the basis of gaining an economic advantage compared to the traditional transport sector. In this discussion of technology and transport we will be focusing on the influence of technology and IT issues in the transport sector towards gaining an economic advantage throughout the globe. Furthermore, it will take a case in point and briefly discuss how technology negatively affects the transportation system. Advancement of technology in the transport sector The transport sector from the global perspective has had tremendous improvements that are as a result of the revolution in the entire industry. The revolution is based on four principles that involve accident prevention, safety, route planning and reduction of carbon emission to the atmosphere. Accident prevention Matti 2 Technology has made it possible for the development of driving systems that are entirely useful in the navigation process along the road. These applications are often associated with the alert devices that identify the proximity of the oncoming vehicles thus enabling drivers to avoid any form of collisions (Oliver, & Stephanie). The systems have the capability of overriding the driver controls especially when he or she is not alert on the wheel to avoid accident cases. Safety The modern cars have a series of sensors that monitor and track the driver’s physiological movements and indicators as he or she navigates through the road. Wherever the sensors determine that the driver is not alert or fails the indicative tests, the sensors start terminating the operation of the vehicle making it inoperable until the driver regains from fatigue or other physiological problems (Oliver, & Stephanie). Route planning The technology in the transport sector enables a vehicle’s sensors to communicate with the GPS signals to establish the rout a particular car would take to its destination (Oliver, & Stephanie). The GPS mapping directs the driver throughout the journey because all that is expected is keying in the destination and the routing map is populated. Reduction of carbon emission to the atmosphere Technology has been at the forefront in ensuring that it reduces carbon emission into the atmosphere that is gradually leading to global warming. This is in conjunction the manufacture of vehicles that use green power like electricity to cut down emission of deadly fumes in the atmosphere. Major advancements in transportation The on-demand ride services Matti 3 This is basically the provision of taxi services to the customers as and at when they desire them. This is basically done by sending a request for the services through a mobile application which allows the customer to send his or her location after which he or she gets picked by a specified company (Transportation Technology). This is demonstrated by companies like Uber and Lyft companies. Autonomous cars The existence of Telsa and Google cars that are self-driven is as a result of the revolution in technology with respect to the transport sector. These cars are commanded and controlled by algorithms that direct the vehicle to the destination (Transportation Technology). However, the technology has not fully been accepted by the users citing safety issues because of the cases of accidents reported. Technology has made transportation mobility easier. Adapting the transportation’s latest innovation even the remote places can now be easily reached. The electronic inventory made transportation safer. Drones have made the transportation performance better with its electronic components as we as databases. It has now adapted self-driving technologies in the automotive installations. The economic value attached to technology in transportation The levels of efficiency and reliability in the transport sector have improved as a result of technology. The traffic cases that have in the past been evident in most of the roads in the globe have as well been reduced significantly thus saving the time that is wasted in snarl-ups for other activities that are of economic value to the society (Transportation Technology). More investors are also getting on board to ensure that that industry realizes economic growth for purposes of all stakeholders in the industry worldwide. Matti 4 Information Technology Issues on Transportation Industry In Western & Ran views, application of IT in the transportation industry should focus on the applications of the intranets, extranets, as well as internet in designing, constructing and in the operation of the transportation facilities. In their recent study, they have discussed that transportation industry should anticipate the IT revolutions because according to them there will be a great impact in the distributed computing and in the application of the data management. They have pointed out that there are organizations that were not prepared for the changes an unwilling to try an initial investment for the technology. They recommend the fact that software has now become very essential in the transportation system. Safety issues should be ensured that in using the software to make sure that it will do no harm to anyone. One implication of this is that if there is a breach in the security barrier of the software the system may no longer ensure safety that may result to injury or more serious situation. They asserted that to avoid this, standards as well as guidelines should be developed where the transportation community can rely on in the changing environment. According to Western and Ram, the following should also be considered in the application of technology transportation like how to provided assistance to the Aging and the Disabled drivers, how to evaluate the needs and behaviour of the motorists according to the deployment of the transportation technology and how to start the partial, advance, as well as full automation, how to evaluate the collision warning as well as the avoidance system, and how the mitigation system works. Conclusion According to the study, new innovations in the technology will enable the industry to solve as well as meet the challenges in the transportation system (Western and Ran, n.d.). It Matti 5 requires more integrative as well as coordinating approach towards the application of IT like the system for global positioning and intelligent transportation. And to be able to achieve this, the industry should monitor the developments the other economy sectors. The evidence shows how technology has indeed made great impact on the performance of the transportation system. It is always true that technology made great difference in the transportation performance. However, in terms of safety, I am not arguing that those that are mentioned above are not effective but I would say that technology has also a negative impact on the transportation system such as texting or doing some internet things while driving that has cause so much accidents resulting to deaths. I would agree to Western and Ram that apart from adapting the software applications, those considerations that they emphasized in the application of the transportation should be considered to ensure the safety of the transportation system thus will truly contribute a lot to the global economy.
