Good Data Backup planning
Data backup planning is the process of archiving or copying folders and files to be in a
position to restore them in the event of data loss (Hart et al., 2016). Data can be lost as a result of
various issues such as computer viruses, fire, theft, or floods. In the case where business holds a
database for its information, in the event of data loss there will be a loss of critical customer,
financial and company data. However, no one perfect data backup strategy fits every individual's,
corporate entity or organization's needs. It is therefore essential to consider individual needs and
requirements when creating back up plan. Some of the issues to consider are the volume of data,
the value of data, storage devices, budgeted cost, and degree of risk exposure to data loss. Other
issues to consider as part of a data backup plan are the data to back up, the types of backups to
run, where to store the backup data, the kind of media to be used in storing backups, and how
often the backups will be run.
