Write a paper (1,000-1,250 words) about the selection of the appropriate psychological test and/or assessment. Answer each of the following three questions:

  1. What resources are available to assist counselors in the selection of the appropriate psychological tests and/or assessments for a client?
  2. What are four to five important diagnostic factors a counselor should consider when selecting a psychological test for a client?
  3. How can a counselor determine that a specific test is the appropriate test for a client’s demographics?

Include at least four scholarly references in addition to the textbook in your paper.

Introduction
Resources for psychological testing
Psychological testing involves a number of resources which are very crucial and play a
big part in helping counselors conduct their day to day duties. One of the resources for the above
is psychological tests. These involve different types of tests which include special education
tests. Special education tests include intelligence tests, achievement tests, processing tests,
adaptive behavior tests, personality tests and tests for gifted and impaired. Another type of
psychological test is the adaptive behavior test, which is measured using everyday living skills
such as walking, talking, getting dressed, going to school, going to work, preparing a meal,
cleaning the house, etc. These are skills that a person learns in the process of adapting to his/her
surroundings.
Measuring adaptive behavior helps in diagnosis as well as program planning. The
Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) is another tool used for psychological testing, which is a selfreport scale designed to be simple to administer and not to require the skills of a trained
interviewer. Another type of resources is IQ scores. This is used in measuring the intelligence of
a person, education intelligence and IQ differences for adults in different occupations. The
