Question Description

The Missouri Compromise of 1820 established a clear line between states where slavery was legal and states where slavery was illegal. Then, in 1850 another compromise banned the sale of slaves--but not slavery itself--in the nation's capital. These are but two of the many examples of the federal government attempting to solve, through legislation, a difficult and controversial issue.

In no less than 250 words, describe and discuss whether you believe that laws can effectively solve (or resolve) controversial moral dilemmas. You must support your post with specific examples. Think of your post as the start of a conversation with your fellow students.
