Irish assimilation into the United States culture has been comprehensive making
it difficult to discuss the family organization of the Irish Americans. However, there are
still some notable characteristics in the family organization and roles. For instance,
many marry at an older age, and their families are relatively large compared to another
group due to their adherence to the teaching of the Catholic Church on contraception.
Also, Irish tend to rear their kids depending on the socio-economic background of the
family (Helmreich, 2017). Also, they are love foods with high fat and caloric content.
Moreover, alcohol plays and adamant role in Irish social life. In many families negative
reinforcement such as belittling, shaming, ridiculing, and embarrassing is common.
