Jonathan Swift is considered as among the most skillful authors of the eighteenth century
because of his accomplished and harsh satirist writing style, and polemic that he caused during
this time. Mostly, his sensational, Gulliver’s Travel seems to be camouflaging. He harshly
criticizes his country’s situation by blaming British and Irish politicians and the human
ignorance race. Swift had two primary objectives in Gulliver’s travel apart from presenting an
excellent story of adventure. Behind the camouflage of Swift’s narrative, he extensively satirizes
human nature’s pettiness and attacked the Whigs. He broadly diminishes the politician’s stature
and human nature stature. Moreover, he introduces various illusions which were best known by
his contemporaries such as the rope dancers, the queen’s chamber, the bills of particulars drawn
against Gulliver, and Gulliver’s pocket as Whig politics’ critical. Therefore, this paper is an
analysis of Jonathan Swift and a symbolic analysis of Gulliver’s Travels.

Jonathan Swift’s History

Jonathan Swift was brought up from a humble single parenthood family which included
his sister, Jane and his mother, Abigail. Necessarily, his father past seven months before his birth
and he was a famous England clergyman. Little is known about his childhood life. However,
what is known about him is that Swift’s mother left him and his sister to be raised by their
relatives because she returned to his homeland, Leicester city in England. Moreover, he was
taken to England by a nurse when he was still a bay where she stayed for three years before
returning to his family (Downy and Alan 3).

During the start 1673, Swift joined Kilkenny Grammar School, and in this school, he
enjoyed in learning literature and reading and excelled explicitly in language study as noted by
Downy and Alan (5). Later in 1682, Swift joined the Trinity College where he graduated from
Bachelor of Arts by special grace which was a designation for individuals who did not perform
well when at the institution. Swift when to England after leaving the Trinity College where he
started working as a secretary for Sir William Temple at a patronage position. In 1962, he was
awarded an M.A from the University of Oxford and later received a Doctorate of Divinity from
the University of Dublin (Downie and Alan 6).
From around 1689 to 1694, Swift was formally hired as the Sir William Temple’s
secretary in Surrey, Moor Park in England. In 1694, Swift was ordained as a priest of the
Anglican Church (Church of Ireland), and he became kilroot parish priest and this church as in
Northern Ireland near Belfast. Later in 1969, he returned from Ireland and became Lord
Berkley’s chaplain (Oakleaf and David 4).

the prebend which as an honorary clergyman appointment to offer service at the St. Patrick
Cathedral in Dublin. He was designated as the church of Ireland’s emissary in 1707 and 1713;
