Description
In 2010, there was a massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico caused by an accident and the resulting leaking oil from the Deepwater Horizon well of British Petroleum. Despite the dooomsayers and media frenzy, the ocean floor, water mass and shoreline areas began to recover fairly rapidly. What accounts for this turnaround of an environmental disaster?
Without any environmental finger-pointing, and using your knowledge of human use of marine resources, explore some of the reasons BP would have had to drill in that location. Why did it take so long to plug the leak?
Finally, identify the real source of most of the oil pollution in the oceans and suggest ways to prevent it.
