Introduction
Islamic culture in the Middle East is perceived in the Western World as being
synonymous with female oppression and discrimination. "Infidel" is a factual autobiography of
Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Somali-born Dutch-American activist, feminist and politician, which offers
substantial evidence of these activities. It gives the world a closer victimized and emotional view
of the subjective reality of the situation. Authored by an escapee, it takes a tone of reform-calling
and religious criticism against some Islamic cultures and their practices. She writes a detailed
recollection of her choice of ways to pursue both self and women's emancipation. In this review,
the objective, the target audience, and the success of the author to achieve this, is discussed. It
concludes that, even though the book seeks to enlighten oppressors to interpret the Quran
correctly, and supposes a reason why Islam is conservative as compared to the modern world,
