What would you rate the most important concept you have learned from taking this Course
“Security Architecture and Design”?
Security Architecture and Design is a course that entails three components: the hardware
and software security systems, models to keep the system secure and evaluation models to
quantify security. The most important concept I have learned in this course is the security system
design concepts which consist of five aspects. The first is layering which uses modular tiers to
separate the functions of the software from the hardware (Jan et al., 2014). While the security
layers are not interdependent, they vary according to the complexity of the task. Common system
security layers consist of: Hardware, kernel and device drivers, operating system and
applications. The second component of system security is abstraction. It helps to hide
unnecessary details from the system’s user. While it may seem wrong to hide some of the
processes from the user, it helps to maintain the system’s security by reducing the complexity
associated with computers. In simpler terms, abstraction implies that the user only gets the final
output but does not have to understand the processes associated with it (Sicari, Rizzardi...
