Introduction
ACME Company is facing an ethical dilemma due to the move by Mary, one of its
employees to disclose classified information about the company's ethical practices to the United
States Environmental Protection Agency. Should Mary fail to institute a workplace privacy
policy, the company will face several issues relating to the work agreement with Mary. In
addition, such a move would result in ethical challenges associated with executive leadership,
Mary, and the employees.
The Issues the Company Faces if Mary Cannot Institute a Workplace Privacy Policy
Mary, an employee of ACME Inc. is at risk in case she violates the workplace privacy
policy by remaining honest and disclosing the spillage that took place at the company. The
company will be required to produce the files destroyed by the manager to hide the spillage on
the company's property. However, Mary feels that the Environment Protection Agency (EPA)
ought to know the incident and then provide a solution to the environmental hazardous caused by
the spillage (Barth, 2013). She is however in a dilemma of either instituting workplace privacy
policy or remaining calm or revealing the incident to EPA. Should she chose the latter, then
ACME Inc. will be forced to come to terms with employee rights and rules which provides for
whistleblowing, ethical frameworks, and employment at will that are protected by the rule of
law.
Employment at Will
Employment at will rule gives the employer and the employee the freedom to terminate
employment at any time with or without a course and notice. The company will thus face the
issue of applying the at-will doctrine that does not make it necessary to identify a good cause of
