General Electric is a global and digital industrial company that has its headquarters in
New York. The company deals with aviation, healthcare, renewable energy, venture capital and
financing, transportation, oil and gas, power generation, medical imaging, and digital work. The
company has operations in more than 180 countries and employs more than 300,000 individuals
globally with 106,000 of them being in the U.S (USSEC, 2017). The company started operations
in 1892 and has since grown to become one of the leading firms in the gross revenue. Some of its
subsidiaries include GE Aviation, GE Capital, GE Digital, GE Healthcare, GE Renewable
Energy among others (USSEC, 2018). The report will focus its analysis on one of the
subsidiaries GE Aviation.
Ford Motor Company is a multinational automaker that has its headquarters in Michigan
and was founded by Henry Ford and incorporated in 1903 and 1919 respectively. Ford Motor
Company deals with the design, production, sale, and servicing of different types of automobiles
and commercial vehicles. The company employs more than 200,000 employees in the various
operations that it has globally (USSEC, 2018). The company has four primary segments under
the mother company, and they include the automotive, financial services, the Central Treasury
Operations and the Ford Smart Mobility LLC (USSEC, 2018).
Types of Inventories and Essential Inventory Characteristics
Inventory can broadly be described as the total amount of goods that said business has
with it at any given time. It is an essential part of the whole operation as it this that keeps the
business going efficiently; however, when there is too much of it, it can result in inefficiencies
and ends up being expensive for the company to maintain (Fontaine et al. n.d). Inventory,

can still be met with the least cost. The main products of GE Aviation are jet engines, aerospace

and military sectors. Ford Motor Company main inventories include raw material comprising of
work under process, the finished products which include the spare parts and vehicles which are
essentially products that are ready to be sold....
