One of the most popular article on the telehealth I identified is Office-Based Physician
Adoption of Telehealth submitted to the class in April 2018. The driving question in this article is
what affects the diffusion of telehealth among the physicians? The problem is that over the years
the healthcare industry have advanced towards delivery models which reward quality over
quantity. The key purpose of the article was to scrutinize the adoption and implementation of
telehealth and to identify the barriers which affect its adoption or diffusion among physicians.
Telehealth improves the patients’ engagement, improving patients’ access to care and also its
impact on practice revenue ("The effectiveness of Telemental Health", 2013). The author
conducted this research and using the data from the Maryland Health Care Commission, who had
conducted an environmental scan of the 64 office-based physicians. The method was not
appropriate as the data obtained from the Maryland Health Care Commission were not audited
for validity and the results might have been affected by the respondents’ interpretation of the
questions. Furthermore, the data for the year 2017 and the year 2018 were absent from the
Maryland Healthcare Commission, the data for this years were estimated using liner
approximation which further jeopardizes the validity of the method.
The question was answered by the obscure methodology, indicating that the largest
percentage around 69% of the physicians failed to adopt the telehealth technology citing that
they required additional information about the telehealth on the probable opportunities and
benefits to the patients and the practices. The cost of re-engineering the workflows so that it can
include home care delivery is exorbitant, it requires substantial investment both in time and
technology. The whole process does not encourage personal engagement like in-person visits to
the healthcare providers. The issue about privacy and confidentiality of the information in the
