The social learning theory entails principles of cognitive and behaviorism theories of
learning. It provides an explanation of how learning takes place by imitating and observing the
other peoples’ behavior. In this regards, learning is a cognitive process which occurs in a social
context through observation or issuing of the instructions. Moreover, learning can also take place
through the observation of punishments and rewards, (vicarious reinforcement). A behavior that is
rewarded regularly is likely will persist while the one that is constantly punished will desist. Based
on Bandura’s suggestion, the learning process is composed of four components i.e. attention,
motivation, retention, and motor reproduction. The cognitive and environmental factors have an
influence on the learning process.

Social learning theory has been employed in classrooms in various ways. However, most
tutors may not be fully aware of the application to be put in practice to their scholars and therefore
might not be useful to the theory of social learning to upgrade the performance of students.
Harinie, 2017 integrated social learning theory to learning rooms by enabling one to create
a favorable atmosphere for scholars to engage their tutors’ lessons and enjoy learning. The six
approaches to social learning theory that fits with the classroom. These include;
Organizing rewards for various class activities.

Give rewards for younger scholars such as candy, create a bonus point reward for

students that might also boost their future exams and also allow or organize class parties.



Motivate the students by giving rewards according to the grade level and maturity

in classes

Include numerous awards such as weekly, monthly and annual awards and create

an open platform for all students to participate in these rewards such as regular class attendants
and average grade performed students should be the first priority to be rewarded.

Boost students by being positive to students’ performance comments by including

short comments such as you can do better.

Develop a positive attitude when advising students. Always avoid discouraging

comments to low performed students.
