The impact of refugee challenges and opportunities in Europe
Introduction
The impact of refuges in Europe has had negative challenges. Emergence of ethnic
conflicts and wars in countries such as Lebanon and Syria has forced many innocent women,
men and children to seek for asylum in Europe. The number of people seeking for homes in
Europe has skyrocketed from two hundred thousand in 2006 to more than one million as of the
year 2015. Displaced individuals from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan have been compelled to make
journey to Europe on foot. The economic impact of refuges in Europe is likely to be positive for
the short term based on the fact that refugees arriving in Europe need to be fed and housed.
According to the United Nations, it is necessary for countries in Europe to address medical needs
and train refuges to be ready to enter the labor market. This is a clear indicator that countries in
Europe are required incur additional financial expenditure in order to address increased needs of
the refugees. This is grounded on the fact that upon gaining access in Europe, majority of asylum
seekers are faced with myriad problems such as language barrier, poor academic qualifications
and the complicated process of applying to be granted asylum in the country. Challenges and
opportunities posed by increased surge of refuges do have a significant impact to European
countries.
Dovigo, F. (2018). Challenges and Opportunities in Education for Refugees in Europe. Studies in
Inclusive Education, Volume: 37.
According to the book, surge of refugees in Europe do pose significant challenges to the
education in European school systems. The article relies on historical documents to justify the
fact that the problem of refugees in European schools cannot be given a blind eye. The book is

essential in addressing the plight of refuges as it gives insights for researchers, policy makers and
teachers who are after including refuges in various academic programs. The key finding does
indicate that the impact of refuges in European schools is immense hence it is prudent for
governments and stakeholders in various schools to come up with indomitable solutions in order
to address problems facing refugees.
Dovigo addresses the pertinent issue of the recent increased migrations of refuges in
Europe who happen to be fleeing their home countries due to war and other hard living
conditions. The entire process of emphasizing on promotion of systematic inclusion policies does
mean that counties do recognize the plight of refugees in the European education systems.
Effective implementation of school based interventions and programs are necessary to reap
positive opportunities and eliminate challenges of refugees in the European education system.
Naimou, A. (2016). Double Vision: Refugee Crises and the Afterimages of Endless War. Johns
Hopkins University Press Volume 43, Number 1, 226-233.
Naimou explains a scenaro of increased refuges and other illegal immgirants in the
Europen countries. Accoring to the article, immigrantys especially refuges have been treated in
inhumane manner such as being branded cusuatities, criminals and temporary visistors among
other forms of vilifications. The manner in which refuges and immgrnats are treated is due to the
fact that their actions are painted in negative ways. Having relied on number of scholalyr articles,
Naimou explains that overseeing immigrants does entail use of humanitarian strategeis to address
the plight of refuges in society.
Naimou justifies the fact that immgirants pose as threats to national security as they break
through borders that are intended for placing safeguards for respective countries. She cites the

examle of Hungary to show the fact that refuges should be handled with a lot of carefulness
because when they breach security safeguiards, the entire process results into violence within the
host country. Naimou states that free passports in Europem countries are still available but
should be temporarily halted in order to address the problem of refugees in Europe.
EEAG. (2017). Immigration and the Refugee Crisis – Can Europe rise to the Challenge? The
EEAG Report on the European Economy, 82–101.
EEAG, 2018 addresses the problem of increased immigrates in Europe due to increased
incidences of natural calamities and political unrest in North Africa and the Middle East. Relying
on numerous scholarly articles, it is clear that wars and ethnic violence in the two regions have
caused unprecedented wave of refugees in Europe. This has had a number of challenges to the
welcoming countries such as financial constraints in order to deal with medical needs, food and
academic needs of the immigrants. Key finding does show that influx of refugees in Europe has
caused significant negative economic impacts in European nations especially the labor market. It
is substantive recommendation that addressing surge of refuges in the region should not be single
effort of the affected country. Integration of efforts by European Union countries is vital to fully
address the problem. This is based on the fact that there are numerous entry points for
immigrants in Europe.
Pachocka, M. (2016). The OECD and the twin migration and refugee crises in Europe
Pachocka, 2016 examines efforts made international stakeholders in the process of
making their voice embraced on the issue of migration and the crisis of refuges in Europe. Key
finding indicates that increased number of refuges pose a huge challenge to the European
countries. In order to address the question in clear manner, Pachocka relies on other peer

reviewed scholarly sources. OECD does offer a more pragmatic policy focused approach of
addressing the problem of refugees in Europe. Pachocka, states that OECD has managed to
identify a number of economic and demographic opportunities associated with rising surge of
refuges in Europe. Therefore, it is crucial for OECD member countries to identify number of
opportunities that are sustainable and do have socio-economic benefits in order to fully address
the problem of increased refuge crisis in the region. It is clear that proper remedies of refuge
crisis cannot be addressed by an individual country.
Holmes, S.M & Castaneda, H. (2016). The 2015 Refuge Crisis in Europe Forum. Representing
the “European refuge crisis’ in Germany and Beyond: Deservingness and Difference, life and
death. Journal of the American Ethnological Society.
The article examines the European refuge crisis that has gained global recognition. The
article relies on other scholarly sources, analyzed data to justify the key finding that refuge crisis
is a war of position that has potential deadly consequences to the host countries. The crisis of
refuge is a multifaceted aspect that requires integration of efforts by various stakeholders. The
crisis of refuge leads to the fear of cultural, religious and ethnic differences. According to the
article, anthropology is one of the major determinants in the process of analyzing, highlighting
various sites of contestation in order to address problem. The article emphasizes on the crucial
role played by media in the process of highlighting the plight of women in society. Citing the
example of the Germany, media houses do play a huge role on informing humanitarian groups in
the process of raising and creating awareness in society. Refuges should be handled in a way that
respects fundamental rights of life.
Conclusion
REFUGEE CRISIS
6
Indeed the problem refuge is a global issue. Europe has not been immune to surge of
refuges due to fact that the neighboring countries are prone to ethnic wars and other forms of
conflicts. Refuges do have and pose numerous challenges such as security issues and other forms
of economic costs in order for welcoming countries to address the plight of immigrants.
Therefore, unmatched strategies are necessary for refuges to stay a happy life.
