Description
Your answers should be approximately 700-1000 words each (1-2 single-spaced pages). Essays should be well-structured, edited for spelling and grammar, and properly cited (bibliography is NOT included in your word/page count). Excellent essays will draw on a range of class lectures and readings and illustrate their points with specific examples. It is strongly recommended that you read through the grading rubric before writing your answer. While you may choose to integrate outside material in your answer, there is no expectation that you do so and your answers should focus on course content.
Question 1 (25 points)
Compare and contrast three of the following four case studies of monumental architecture discussed this week: Great Pyramids (Old Kingdom Egypt); Xianyang (Qin Dynasty China), Stonehenge (Neolithic/Copper Age Britain), and Moai (Rapa Nui). In your discussion of each case study, describe the monuments, explain how they fit into or follow from existing monumental architecture traditions in the region, and examine the social contexts of their construction and use.
