George Orwell-1984 Novel
George Orwell-1984 novel is an American model which creates a technologically
sophisticated world which uses dread to manipulate and control the human mind concerning control,
power, corruption and the eventual utopian fraternity. Orwell contingently proposes that government
power would eventually get corrupt and try to coerce citizens to abide by their one set standard. He
further explains that the corrupt government would endeavour to eliminate any physical or mental
opposition to their belief, thus prevent chances of achievement of a utopian society. This essay
describes the legal environment in this book with illustrations on similarities and differences
between Orwell’s Big Brother and the contemporary government environments.
The government tries to control the bodies and minds of its citizens who do not conform to
their beliefs using different methods. The first instance arises when the government produces large
posters captioned "Big Brother watches over you" as its watchful face to instil fear in citizens
(Fadaee, 2013). This government uses listening devices and cameras to observe the actions of
Oceania people. Police are used to snoop into people's conversations and report general
misbehaviour and rebellious thoughts to the relevant government authorities. Helicopters are used to
monitor people’s activities even in their houses making Oceania a police state. People have no
privacy both in public and also in their homes.
Orwell illustrates that total power control by any government would lead to the deprival of
liberties and freedoms of people. He uses the Soviet Union as the novel’s foundational example and
