TDn2K and CHART produce yearly reports on the trends in hospitality training and
development. In 2017, the organization researched various companies in the industry and
provided information about training needs, employee turnover, the performance of companies
with management training and e-learning resource. There were various topic but the rise in elearning and the lower hourly employee turnover in companies in the sector aroused my
curiosity.
Hourly Employee Turnover Rate
According to the report, hospitality companies with lower hourly employee turnover had
particular characteristics. These features included spending more time on the orientation of the
workers, offering their incumbent employees with more hours of ongoing training and utilizing
more classroom training. Offering incumbent employees with more training hours on technology
makes them feel prepared to tackle their responsibilities since they possess the tools to succeed.
Training in classrooms had 16% lower hourly turnover rates in companies that had utilized the
method showing its importance to retention.
The industry, especially the restaurant business, is prone to the highest turnover rates.
Hourly worker turnover rates are ordinary with companies struggling with the problem. In
August of 2017, TDn2K revealed 49.7% for managers and 146.2% for workers in hourly
