Description

Details:

The goal of this paper is to understand how the brain and memory processes are intertwined and how certain techniques can improve these processes. In an essay of 1,000-1,250 words, discuss how memories are formed and maintained in the brain through the actions of neural circuitry. Use at least four scholarly resources to address the following questions:

Theoretically, how is working memory similar to and different from long-term memory?

How are memories formed in the brain (using neural circuitry), and how are they maintained?

When is it adaptive to remember, and in what ways may it be adaptive to forget?

Given what we know about brain mechanisms in memory, are our memories accurate? Explain your answer using information on how memories are stored in the brain.

How can knowledge of the brain and memory systems be used to help individuals suffering from memory problems (e.g., poor memory, amnesia, PTSD)?

Compare the role age and environment play in how memories are formed and maintained.

Working memory and long-term memory are different in some ways but also shares some
similar characteristics in the human life. Working memory is short-lived while the long memory
lasts longer. One can hold information about events that are not in the mainstream of thoughts.
Unlike the long-term memory, working memory holds information briefly as other mental
operations are ongoing. The long-term memory can hold a large amount of information of events
that happened while the working memory holds short information about the operations currently
carried out in the brain. Long-term memory is categorized into two: the explicit memory that one
remembers each day such as an event in life and the implicit memory are the memories that one
can live without remembering in the brain such as riding a bicycle.
Long-term and working memories share some characteristics such as they all assist the
human being in remembering. The two types of memories do not hold information at one region.
Each type has different regions to hold different information.
Memory formation
The brain has neurons that form the biological basis of mental processes like memory.
Each neuron connects with others through dendrites and axons that form a very big network in
the brain....
