Question Description

Imagine if you had unlimited funds and you could travel to view artwork all over the Asian world!

This week you will develop a “dream” Guided Art Tour that will focus on Early Indian Art.

Visual Analysis/Context: Integrate a visual analysis using art history terms and vocabulary (worksheet is found under "Asian Art History Basics”) into the larger context of the culture that made the work. Your tour should be no less than 600 words (about 300 words on each artwork).

MLA Formatting Your submission should reflect college standards using scholarly sources with correct MLA formatting of scholarly sources and correct standard rules of English grammar, mechanics, syntax, spelling, and sentence construction. Any assignment with plagiarism (intentional or not) will receive a ZERO. It is your responsibility to cite ANY ideas, even if paraphrased, that came from another source - even if translated into English.

Participation Participate in the discussion by responding to your instructor’s feedback AND comment on at least two of your classmates' Guided Art Tours.

HERE IS THE TEMPLATE FOR THE ASSIGNMENT:

ART207: Guided Art Tour

Artwork Image #1 Chapter 1

Include the image in this section.

Identify Artwork

Use the caption of the artwork to IDENTIFY the artist (if known), title, medium, date.

Subject Matter, Visual Analysis, including Style

Identify the SUBJECT MATTER. Provide a VISUAL ANALYSIS using the at least two elements of art and at least two principles of design terms. Identify the “artistic STYLE” and support your assertion.

Context

In this section, you will present relevant research on the culture that made the artwork (use the textbook and online material – required) and provide proper citation (MLA, or Chicago Manual Style).

Explain in YOUR words (INDEPENDENT CONCLUSIONS HERE!) how the subject and visual appearance of the artwork reflects the culture that made the work. What does the work’s subject, appearance and its choice of art elements and design principles tell us about the cultural beliefs and context of the culture? This visual and contextual connection is the goal of “art” and “history”.
