The theme that has been chosen is the African identity, specifically the African-American
identity in the films. In one of the most prestigious film awards, there was the hashtag
#OscarSoWhite as the African Americans resisted what they felt was a deliberate attempt to
overlook their contribution in the American film and identity. For a long time, the primary goal
of the African American films has been to highlight the “black American political
disillusionment, the struggle for higher standards, and the pressure to maintain an authentic
