INTRODUCTION TO HYPOTHESIS TESTING

Probability
Probability is the formalization of the study of the notion of uncertainty. The effects
of blind chance are apparent everywhere, (Haigh, 2012). Probability is therefore defined as
the likeliness of the occurrence of an event. Probability usually lies between 0 and 1. A
higher degree of probability implies that the event has more chances of happening..
History of probability
The origins of probability are a piece of everyday life. The major advance which
brought about the modern science of probability was Blaise Pascal’s work. (Hassett &
Stewart, 2006). In 1654, Chevalier de Mere gave Pascal a gaming problem. The problem of
points dealt with the division of proceeds of an interrupted game. Pascal hence entered a
correspondence with Pierre de Fermat, another French mathematician. The problem was
solved in this correspondence and this work ...
