With the changes in demographics, Human Services Professionals will be faced with the challenge of meeting the needs of culturally diverse clients. For the discussion, consider the impact of cultural competency.

In becoming culturally competent, the Human Services Professionals should first carefully assess the client’s demographic and cultural situation. Using the internet and the Library, research and expand on the critical information deemed necessary in determining the needs of a culturally diverse client .

becoming more multicultural. As such, cultural competence has become an essential element
in the human services professions. As defined by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health
Services Administration (2018), cultural competence constitutes the ability of an individual to
interact and work effectively with people from different cultures. In this case, this ability has
led to a significant revolution in helping people in drug use and mental health issues in a
number of ways. One of these is that the human services professionals have the capacity to
understand the distinct needs of each community. According to Blackburn (2015), the needs
of people vary from one culture to another as a result of the differences in values,
socioeconomic factors, and social classes. As a result, each cultural group will have a
different set of expectations from those of another.
