WAN PROTOCOLS AND CONNECTIONS TECHNOLOGIES
Wide Area Network topology is a network protocol that connects computers from different
remote regions and additional covers a more extensive area network, hence including more nodes
in geographic location. In most cases, these WANs contain smaller networks within its bounds
and they include, the Local Area Networks (LANs), the Metro Area Networks (MANs), etc.
WAN has similar aspects as that of the Local Area Network (LAN). However, it is more
significant and not limited to a single location like LAN and MAN. Most of the Wide Area
Networks cover long distances using telephone lines, satellites links or fiber optic cables.
Currently, the biggest WAN globally is the internet. The Wide Area Network is formed when a
set of routers and switches are interconnected, and these switches can be in different topologies
which may include half mesh or full mesh. The Wide Area Network can be owned privately, or it
may be rented to a service provider. There exist several Wide Area Network protocols, however,
in this case, we will have a keen look at a few (Edrawsoft.com, 2017).
Point to Point
The point to point protocols is regarded as one of the most straightforward protocols since it is
direct and it only links two endpoint thus called the point to point ...
